We, the residents of Park Island, petition for detachment from the Village of Lake Orion to remain solely within Orion Township — the jurisdiction that already serves us.
Sign the PetitionPark Island is a private island community of 30 residential homes accessed by a privately maintained road and bridge. Over time, residents have experienced a steady reduction in municipal services from the Village of Lake Orion — most notably the discontinuation of winter snowplowing on our private road.
Residents now pay the DPW separately for plowing and have recently funded road resurfacing at their own expense. Given this level of self-sufficiency, we believe it is both practical and equitable to align our tax contributions with the jurisdiction already providing the majority of our services: Orion Township.
Orion Township presently delivers several essential services to Park Island residents:
Full fire and emergency response services
Permits, inspections, and code enforcement
Property valuation and assessment administration
Access to Orion Township Public Library
Residents already vote for Township officials
Oakland County Sheriff provides patrol coverage
Water and sewer services will continue to be billed and paid to the Village, as is currently the case.
This additional revenue could contribute to strengthening Township services and potentially reducing the overall tax burden for current Township residents over time.
